Newport County have six games remaining in their quest to clinch a League Two play-off spot

Jay Mingi scored in added time against Newport County for a potentially crucial win in Colchester United's battle against the threat of relegation from League Two.

Offrande Zanzala pounced on a defensive mix up before the break.

But after Ellis Iandolo hit back in the 75th minute, Mingi's winner ensured they dented Newport's play-off hopes.

Colchester stay a point above the relegation zone while while Newport fell a place to 12th.

Colchester have three games in hand on Sutton United, who are one and a place below them while Newport ended the day five points off the top seven.

Newport County boss Graham Coughlan:

"The performance wasn't great, nor was the result. We looked at their [Colchester's] bench before the game, and it won them the game, we just don't have that.

"At this moment in time, we're missing too many players to be competitive. We're coming up short in games and I think the season is catching up with us.

"The lads are giving their all and they have done from day one this season. But we can't stay competitive if we're missing that amount of players."

    Terrible performance the last 2 performances now are a big worry, we got what we deserved today and fair play to Colchester they throughly deserved 3 points today, play off dream is well and truly over :(

    Looking like the best 3 way dance (since ECW 1995) for that bottom spot.

    Doesn't look like FGR are going to make it and I can't believe Sutton, what a turn around.

    As for Colchester nicking it like that at the end, L2 looks like it's going to the last game.

      I think FGR have gone (famous last words). Sutton four wins in 7 after only 4 in 34. Big turn round. Grimsby getting sucked into it, too. Could be close, but CU have enough class to escape.

    About time we actually won one! We battered them 2-1 today! 😄 Mingi has been excellent for the last 3 games, playing out of position (but finding a new one?) so pleased for him to get a goal too.

    Colchester much better than us today. We ain't sneaking in the play offs this year, just finish well and set ourselves up for next season. Silver lining for me is that losing makes FGRs task much harder. They're a joke of a club who deserve to go down.

Townsend kept you in the game almost to the end, an excellent keeper, just a shame that his play-acting earned him a lot of boos and cries of "Cheat cheat cheat" at our end. He's better than that.

    Absolutely no doubt Colchester fully deserved this win, mainly because the visitors ran out of steam and ideas. The play-offs now seem to be something of a pipe dream for Newport and victory visiting Crawly on Monday is essential.

    Well deserved win today. Newport offered nothing except time wasting. Referee could have stopped that with an early yellow. Mingi was outstanding today. Lack of goals from our strikers remains a concern but hopefully that gets solved in the Summer with us still a league side. Up the U’s

    Much needed win today, honestly would have started to really worry aboutt relegation if they had failed to get the three points. As much as i want to see CU play Southend again, I want it to be in the league.

    A really good all round performance today. Mingi has really improved. Newport have had a great season, considering what the experts said at the start. I’d give a lot for a season like that.

    We needed to win today otherwise think we would be relegated hoping the win will give the boys confidence which is lacking should beat tram next Saturday and got grimsby involved in relegation battle. Up the col u.

    Thought we were average 1st half but played a lot better 2nd especially when the subs came on. Mingi is on fire in his new position..The crowd kept with the team when we were losing which is what we need everyone sticking together. Onwards and upwards.

    On my way back from the game.

    Colchester deserved it today, we were poor.

    The manager has worked wonders this year but the lump it up front and turn them tactics is so easy to defend.

    We arent getting the full backs up the pitch to create, we look dangerous when we try to play.

    The 13 for Cochester is a poor player and very dirty
