Hull City are trying to land Cardiff City defender Matthew Connolly, as reported by The72 yesterday. Here are five things to know about him-

1. Started his career at Arsenal- Connolly rose through the youth ranks with the London side and made his first-team debut for them in a League Cup fixture against West Brom in October 2006. He had loan spells away from Arsenal at AFC Bournemouth and Colchester United as a youngster.

2. Key player at QPR- He was snapped up by QPR in 2008 and went onto become a key player for the Hoops. The centre-back played over 100 games for them and helped them gain promotion to the Premier League in 2011.

3. Has been promoted to the top flight five times- Connolly has got a remarkable record of gaining promotion to the top flight. As well as his contribution with QPR in 2011, he has also had loan stints at Reading (2012) and Watford (2015) in which he has been part of a promotion squad. Connolly joined Cardiff in 2012 and has since gone up twice with the Bluebirds.

4. Cardiff career started well- He has played over 100 times for the Bluebirds and won their Player of the Year award for the 2015/16 season on his return to the Cardiff City Stadium after his loan at Watford.

5. Has recently fallen down the pecking order- Connolly played just four times last season under Neil Warnock and is yet to feature for them in the Premier League in this campaign. Could he get some more first-team minutes out on loan with Hull City?
